How to make pancakes? Don’t know what to begin with? Use Scrum Framework!
Pancake Week has begun and it’s time to make pancakes. This time I had the idea to change the recipe a little, according to which I usually bake pancakes. Today I realized – I do it using Scrum! This is also the development and release of the product. There are stakeholders, iterations, inspection and adaptation. There is a vision of the product. Agree? Let’s have a brief overview of what I did in the morning.
The First Sprint, duration 20 minutes:
Planning. Sprint Goal is to bake delicious pancakes with a new recipe. The Acceptance Criteria: one pancake, the size – not bigger than a plate, the pancake is with holes and not very sweet. I made and decomposed my recipe, took all necessary ingredients, tools and made a plan for what I would do in the first Sprint.
Daily Scrum Meeting. What did I do? I prepared ingredients and tools. What is my plan? To begin and finish “the development” of the first pancake. Do I have any obstacles to achieve the goal? No. Let’s begin.
My Sprint has begun: I mixed the ingredients, made the dough and baked the first pancake.
Sprint Review. There is an increment. Unfortunately, the first pancake turned out badly: it was too sweet, there were no holes. I couldn’t flip the pancake to the other side, it broke.
Retrospective. I made the revision, what was bad and what was good. What went wrong: the dough was too liquid. I decided what could be improved. I had my plan of action: add flour and one more egg.
Well, I had three Sprints of 20 min each and the result was perfect: right-sized, delicious pancakes with holes.
Here they are:
Scrum is with us not only at work, but also in everyday life. Did you pay attention to it? Share your experience: where do you apply/implement Scrum? I wil be happy if you share your experince.
Bonus for the Pancakes Lovers, the recipe:

1/4 teaspoon of salt
1 cup of hot milk
1 cup of hot water
6 tablespoons of flour
1 tablespoon of vegetable oil
Deep bowl
Mixer
Ladle
Non-stick frying pan
Optional: butter
The process of cooking:
- In a bowl beat the eggs, add sugar, salt, and baking powder. Mix all ingredients with a mixer at low speed until it becomes homogeneous
- Heat the cup of milk and the cup of water. It is better that the temperature of the milk and water is approximately the same.

- Pour the cup of hot milk into the bowl and mix with the mixer until it becomes homogeneous.
- Pour the cup of hot milk into the bowl and mix with the mixer until it becomes homogeneous.
- Pour the cup of hot water into the bowl and mix with the mixer until homogeneous. There will be foam – it’s ok, don’t worry.
- Add 2 tablespoons of flour and mix with the mixer until homogeneous. Repeat this step three times until all 6 tablespoons of flour are added.
- Add a tablespoon of vegetable oil to the resulting dough and mix with the mixer until homogeneous. Put it aside for 5 minutes.
- Mix the dough with a mixer and you can start baking pancakes.
- Pour a little dough onto a well-heated skillet and spread it over the entire surface.
- When the edges of the pancake are almost browned, carefully flip the pancake to the other side.
- It is better to stack the pancakes on a plate and cover them with a lid or another plate so that they do not cool down and soak. Then they will be soft and tender.
