On the night from Thursday to Friday, I had a dream that I can only describe as a terrifyingly fun adventure in the world of Agile metrics. In this dream, I was like Alice, immersed in a wonderland of process metrics. The dream was as colorful as real life itself.

It all started with an incredibly thrilling moment: I was studying the dashboard with metrics of one of my teams, which seemed endless and full of mysteries. Numbers danced the waltz around me and graphs jumped like acrobats in a circus arena. They were bright, lively, yet at the same time odd and unpredictable.

Counting the numbers, I felt like a virtuoso mathematician, with each press of the calculator accompanied by fanfares and applause. But then two numbers flew up to my face and merged into one, forming the figure 78% – the predictability of my team. Suddenly, the music ceased and the numbers froze in anticipation. My heart beat faster: how could we improve this predictability?

My anxiety turned into a hurricane, sweeping all the numbers off the dashboard, and I had to find a solution in this chaos. The fear of the unknown was great, but the desire to improve processes was even stronger. And I should mention that courage is one of my strong points of the character.

And then the fun began! In search of answers, I met characters from jokes and memes who suggested unconventional solutions to me. One suggested using a crystal ball, another – to perform a ritual with a drum over the backlog. The dream turned into an absurd comedy, where each “solution” was funnier than the last. And it somewhat reminded me of the ball scene from Mikhail Bulgakov’s “The Master and Margarita”.

But among this fun, an idea flickered: what if we approached predictability through flexibility and adaptability? Why not develop a system that allows us to react to changes more effectively, without losing focus on the ultimate goal?

I woke up with understanding that the answer always lies in the balance between planning and the ability to adapt. In real life, I will share this dream with my team. Together we will find ways to increase predictability, without losing the sense of humor that is so important in our work.

Even in the most incredible dreams, there is a grain of truth. Let’s seek inspiration where we least expect it – even if it happens in the depths of our dreams. And remember, predictability is not just about numbers, it’s also about our ability to be ready for anything that the new day brings.

After such a dream, I felt strange: on the one hand, it was fun and inspiring, and on the other, as if I had lived through another working day at night. Sometimes answers come to us in the most unexpected ways, and even scary dreams can turn into fun ideas that move us forward.
