On October 14, I successfully passed the Professional Scrum Master 1 test at Scrum.org and was awarded the certificate. Here it is.
As far as you know, in November, 2020, a new version of the Scrum Guide was released. That’s why I had the idea to check and confirm my knowledge according to this new version. It would be interesting and useful. I think we should do it regularly.
In 2019, I’ve already passed a similar exam at the Scrum Alliance and received a CSM certificate, but according to the Scrum Guide 2010. The validity of this certificate was extended until December 2022. Therefore, I decided to take the exam at Scrum.org.
The test consisted of 80 questions, which had to be answered in 60 minutes. Some of the questions required precise knowledge, some were about understanding the values and areas of responsibility in the framework.
How did I prepare? I read the Scrum Guide 2020 in English, then in Russian, but I realized that it is better to read it in the original. I read it again in English. Then I passed a free training Assessment on the Scrum.org website. Successfully, 100%. Then I paid for the attempt to take the exam.
A couple of days later, during a break at work, I decided to try to take the test: I had time, I felt good, I felt confident, why not? I made myself a cup of coffee and calmly answered all the questions. I did it in 45 of the given 60 minutes. I clicked on Finish button and received a message that I successfully passed the test and received a certificate.
Now I am calm: my knowledge is confirmed.
If you decide to take this test, then my advice to you is – don’t be nervous, don’t worry, read the Scrum Guide 2020 carefully, pay attention to those points that are no longer in the new version. And when you answer, remember not your practical experience (we know that it may differ slightly from the original), but exactly what is written in the Guide, and how it should be.
I wish you Good Luck! Everything will work out! Just don’t be afraid!
